Watch members of Grex’s Education and Events Planning Committee in a connected discussion of Vineet Gairola’s article, On Wilfred R. Bion’s Way of Being: Linking Truth, Thought, and Nostalgia.
Watch the video here: A Gathering: How the Roots of Bion are a forest to us.
Taking a break from the Grex Talks series to lean into gathering, committee members Sanjiwan Boparai, Dorothy Dubrule, Eric Hogensen, Vivian Gold and Jack Lampl held a community conversation on how ideas raised by Gairola relate to how we come to group relations work in the here and now.
In addition to reading the article in advance of the event and bringing their own ideas for discussion, attendees were invited to reflect upon the following questions:
- Does anything in this article about Bion’s sense of O remind you of your own experience, in group relations conferences, or in life itself, that resonates with these concepts?
- Is there a mystical element to group relations and/or a resistance to that possibility?
- Is looking for intellectual antecedents of group relations theory outside the European philosophical tradition a form of Reparations?
- What does binary thinking grant us, and what would it take to resist it?
- What might it mean to decolonize our practice of group relations?
- As a group, what truths might we be avoiding and what experiences or truths are we seeking?
